Bed Before Yesterday

by Ben Travers, directed by Ken Spencer

The Maskers presented Bed Before Yesterdayat the Mountbatten Theatre, Southampton from Tuesday 6th to Saturday 10th December 1981.

The Director wrote;

Ben Travers commenced his brilliant career as an author and novelist just after the First world War and simply could not stop! For most of his life his output was prodigious, by any standards, and his wit and ability did not fail him in later life, as may be expected of a man whose writing career spans more than fifty years. Indeed, "The Bed Before Yesterday" was first produced in 1976, Ben Travers 90th year, and was acclaimed by critics as one of his finest works. This may be regarded as the climax of his career since, at the same time two other Travers' plays were in performance in London Theatres.

Travers was, of course, the master of the Aldwych farces, the basis of which, in his own words, were that "the characters wanted to go to bed with each other". which brings us conveniently to tonight's performance! We hope you enjoy it.
